We have dogs. We have a couple of bolos.
Problem with knives is you need to know how to use them. |

My son suggest that the best defense weapon that is not a firearm would be a crossbow.
Another weapon that is not a a firearm that I know is called an Uzi-gas: it is a tank containing several kilos of compressed teargas with a quarter turn faucet and a shoulder strap. It is used for spraying teargas on large crowds, and the name comes from it being carried in a manner similar to an Uzi sub-machine gun. Use it if your house is stormed by hundreds of demonstrators. |

I guess my best defense "weapon" would be a sharp kitchen knife. However, unless it's a really life-threatening situation, I'd refuse to use it for any other purposes than cooking. I don't believe that violence is an option, I'm a quite radical pacifist (and I think in this context, "radical" is actually good: if the entire world would be devoted pacifists, the world would be a much better place).
Other than that I have faith in our local police, and in my good old door lock. I would refuse to ever bear a fire arm. Other than the fact it is illegal in my country and in most of Europe to bear a fire arm, I would refuse to bear one anyway. I don't think I could live with the thought of having severely wounded a person or having killed a person, even if we're talking about a severe criminal. I don't believe in violence to solve solutions. Unless my own life would be at stake, I don't see myself use violence in any situation. |
