Transfer or archive?
When you have decided to change the email provider for your primary 'stuff', do you transfer (migrate) all your emails to your new provider, or do you 'archive' the emails from your old provider - save them in to a local archive (computer, external HDD).

Since I use an email client (Claws Mail) I do nothing aside from adding the new provider's account information to Claws Mail. All of the worthy email's I received from the old provider are still filled in appropriate folders. Messages coming via the new provider will be filtered the same as they we with the old provider. I've been through this process a few times in the past.
Changing providers in not a fun process. Last edited by chrisretusn : 5 Oct 2025 at 05:41 PM. |

Luckily I've never been faced with that.
Which is preferable? |
