One can cook minced meat in many shapes. Usually Hamburgers, that are supposed to be made with ground beef seasoned only with some salt and pepper, are served as large round patties in a round bun. Where I ground meat shaped as a lond narrow cylinder, much like a hot dog (but without the casing) is called "Kabab" and has lots of seasoning, and often is made of mutton or mix of beef and mutton. There are many combinations of seasonings. The "Romanian Kababs" are what is called in Romania "Metitei" and have lots of garlic in them. Other combinations of seasonings originate in other Balkan or Middle Eastern regions, and would often have lots of parsley or mint in them. People here would see the cylinder shaped meat and expect something much spicier than a Hamburger. However if I had a long bun and some minced meat I would probably shape a long Hamburger that's quite similar to a hot dog. I actually did this a couple of months ago, but not in the shape of a hot dog, but rather an elongated flat patty that would fit the long bun (or baguette). Seemed more appropriate for a Hamburger in a long bun (and is actually more convenient to bite).

No problem with making a burger and using a hotdog bun. That guy made it look like work.
