It doesn't seem to follow rule #2

In this post I started typing using the wrong keyboard layout. When I realized it's the wrong layout I used LayoutFix to fix the text. It copies the text to the clipboard, then translates it to the same key sequence with the nest keyboard layout, and pastes it back instead of the selected text. And then the fixed test remains in the clipboard as long as you don't copy anything else.

Yes it would be nice to be able to save everything you had in your clipboard since you booted up.... I know there there are external programs to do it..

Heres whats in mine now:

http://web.archive.org/web/201401060.../michasiow.com

I just Downloaded 30 Megs of the file listed there to see what they are saying (Interview.mov) .. Just some ppl talking about Ohio state fair....... I would love to DL the whole thing but its 220 Megs!

I tried streaming it and VLC cant seem to lock on so I would have to DL the whole thing.. (uugghh)

The more programs you have that monitor the changing contents of your clipboard(s), the higher the chance that some of them send that data - quite likely to be confidential - elsewhere.

Windows 10 introduced a clipboard history feature, initially off. One can turn it on at Settings - System - Clipboard.

My view is that it might be useful on a PC used only by one person, but eg in a family, it would make it easy for children to discover parents' or siblings' passwords etc.

When I finally get around to commissioning a Win10 (or 11) PC, I'll probably use a frequently scheduled task to check this remains permanently switched off.

Current content of my clipboard: 2025-12-25

It is the date when I will run out of one of my medications.
It's in the clipboard because this morning I updated the Google spreadsheet where I track my inventory: I add the number of pills purchased to the current date in the spreadsheet, then copy the result and paste the value in the original cell. The date stays in the clipboard until I have something else to copy.
So next Xmas if Santa doesn't bring me new hypertension medication I'll have to visit the pharmacy...

Im having trouble getting to your site because you force HTTPS for no reason!!

Your site is not a banking site that needs SSL.... Nothing wrong with having SSL but dont block HTTP for people like me on non standard browsers.... There is no reason to block HTTP on your site!

Yer friend,

An email I sent to almanac.com telling them its insane fior them to block HTTP on thier site!!

Current content of my clipboard: ᵢⱼ

These are Unicode subscript i and subscript j. I needed them several times for matrix element indices.

Mine contains "eea".

I might have mentioned this before. I've got a malfunctioning laptop keyboard, which usually won't produce "a", "e", "A" or "E" when those keys are pressed... but something in it or its wiring or the motherboard randomly generates hundreds of either single such characters or mixtures of them. I've used an AHK script to disable all four characters which means no more sudden floods of unwanted characters.

I do almost all typing on a Bluetooth keyboard - which works perfectly, but because the OS is blocking any "a", "e" etc its "a", "e"... keys appear to do nothing either.

But of course, I need to get them into things. I have 3 toolbar buttons in my text editor which will generate "a" or "e" or "eea" (or the uppercase versions) when I'm typing text in the editor - usually it's simpler to insert "eea" in a document & then remove what's not needed than it is to choose which toolbar button to click on. But that only works for files I'm editing.

For other texts (like this reply), I Ctrl-click or Ctrl-Shift-click those toolbar buttons to load "a", "e" or "eea" (or uppercase versions) into the clipboard so I can just type Ctrl-V everytime I need "a" or "e" or ... In fact I quite often use "eea" in the clipboard in the editor too, instead of clicking the buttons to get the characters 'typed' because it doesn't need me to think "which toolbar button should I click now?" nor move the mouse.

Conversely, if I have some other string already in the clipboard, eg a copied URL, & am using the text editor, I might deliberately only click the toolbar buttons to 'type' the characters so that the URL stays untouched in the clipboard until I need it.

Usually "eea" is more use than a single character, especially for words containing "ee" or "ea". If I'm typing a word like "before", quite often I'll insert "eea" after the "b" giving me "beea", backspace to lose the "a" - thus "bee", move the cursor left one character so it is between the two "e"s, then type "for" & cursor-right. Simples!

Certainly sensible if one writes an essay on a webform, as so many then reject what one types (perhaps in a different field) & as well as (often) showing a useless error message they then clear every field so one has to start again. Of course some forms disallow c&p too...
