Cannot "Send Link by mail"
When I right click the "send link by mail " feature of my browser, it opens up the Fastmail inbox and does not open up the Fastmail compose. How can I get it to go straight to compose with the embedded link to be sent?

Welcome to the EMD Forums, arealken!
![]() Which browser are you using? If you are using a recent version of Firefox (such as v3.6x), you can check this by looking in Firefox at Tools>Options>Applications and enter mailto in the search box at the top. The proper browser string for Fastmail is: https://www.fastmail.fm/action/compose/?mailto=%s But this only shows what has been configured. Setting this up in a browser can be complex. I recommend installing the free FastCheck software if you are using a PC. FastCheck provides immediate notification when a new message arrives at your account, and also provides a few other neat features. When you set up your account details in FastCheck, there is a checkbox to set Fastmail as the default mailto application. This works very well. Bill |

For the reason given as well as others, I do recommend FastCheck too.
I have not been able to use the mailto: links in the browser ever since switching to using web mail. Like about 8 years ago. Anyway, with the prevalence of spam I'm not seeing many mailto: links on web pages and am more often using a "contact us" section of a web site. Not saying you don't need this feature, but it matters less to the browser developers to fix this problem than it could have long ago. |

I am on Linux and have been trying to use "send links to". I landed on "Email This Page" Extension on chromium and it has the option of using "default mail handler".
I think default mail handler needs to be changed to Fastmail "Compose" whenever I need to send link in Ubuntu. I came across two work arounds but could not implement it. 1) http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubunt...ent-in-ubuntu/ 2) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=252330 One of them needs a python script (Tried by the first method but failed) The other needs to making chmod script. Can someone hack it to make it copy and paste for Fastmail? It would be perfect solution for Chromium. Thanks! |

The nearest I have come to on Chrome is to set up a permanent link on Chrome on the bookmarks bar
This is the link here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/3024/...bookmarks_bar/ However, the mentioned Javascript does not work: javascript:location.href='mailto:?SUBJECT='+document.title+'&BODY='+escape(location.href); However, if I use what I found on Google Forums, the javascript would load the compose window of the gmail with the link that needs to be sent. This is here: javascript:location.href='https://mail.google.com/mail/?view=cm&fs=1&tf=1&source=mailto&su='+escape(document.title)+'&body='+escape(location.href); How can I modify this to open up Fastmail Compose in background Tab? That would serve the purpose. Please help!! ![]() Last edited by radtux : 9 Jan 2011 at 10:37 PM. |

I have searched a very simple solution!
If you have a Gmail account, set up a different "from" user interface; e.g. your fastmail id. Even your alias can do. You can even set up the SMTP changes from Gmail. Head over to Chrome Extensions; there are tonnes of bookmarklets/extensions for the same purpose Simple. Your link by email would appear from Fastmail account I am wondering why didn't it strike me earlier. ![]() And the heck I was trying to get into Javascript coding. Sheesh. But it was good to learn ![]() |

I tried the URL that I get from choosing "compose" in FastCheck (it sends directly to the "Compose" screen, and when used directly in the address bar it does lead to the Compose screen (after visiting the login page). I tried adding stuff from this page but I'm still taken to the login page (and then to "Compose"). I tried also to get something in the Subject line (tried adding &FMC-MsgSubject=blah at the end of the URL (FMC-MsgSubject is the name of the "Subject" in the Compose screen form). it didn't work.
It's a bit beyond me. I'm quite sure FastMail programmers can easily hack a URL to open the Compose screen with some filled fields. P.S. https://www.fastmail.fm/mail/?MLS=LN...N**mailto%3A*0 goes directly to Compose (after passing through the login screen for authentication) |
