Please help us test HTML composition

The HTML composition feature is nearly ready for release. As a precursor to this Richard has added a new setting on the Options -> Preferences screen so that you can set your default compose mode. So, we're now using html as our defaults - if it's not up to scratch we'll be forced to fix it or we won't be able to send email! ;)

So, can you all help us by using http://www.fastmail.fm/beta for sending mail. Click Options->Account Preferences and set your default compose mode to 'HTML'.

Known bugs are listed here: http://wiki.fastmail.fm/wiki/index.php/HTMLComposition . If you find any more, please tell us about them. Remember to tell us your operating system and browser name and version number.

Thanks gang! :)

Can I request that the layout of the "Edit As:" button on the Compose Screen be fixed now you're at it?

I'd suggest having a dropdown box only, with "Edit As..." as the first item, and "Text", "HTML", and "Raw HTML" as the options, but anything other than the present layout will be an improvement. :)

Yep, I just tested the setting in the Options - Account Preferences. And hey, it works! I am so happy. I've been waiting for this my whole life. Well, my whole life since I started using FM anyway. ;)

And with that, I become one of the elite: the "e" in e-mail. Woo hoo! :D

WME IE6. When replying, the original text changes to black. This happens on both the web and in OE.

Notes still won't append but says Note Appended at the top.

Put HTML as default in Options etc, worked fine when just testing straight away ... half hour later went to REPLY through view screen and the compose screen has defaulted back to TEXT (It is still set correctly to HTML in Options) ... Used COMPOSE from view screen and it is OK (HTML screen) ... seems like a bug???

The html is easy to use. :)

The HTML editor is very nice. One small problem though: every new window (the colour pallet, for example) opens too small, and I have to resize it manually. I'm using firebird 0.8 on win98se.

This is because you have disabled javascript from moving or resizing windows (which is fair enough as this is the first time I've ever come across a legitimate use of this). I've already listed this on the wiki, but if you want it to work now then go to Tools -> Options -> Web features -> Advanced and check the box saying "Move or resize existing windows"

Cheers,

Neil

Thanks for your reply Neil.

You're right about my JavaScript setting, but I'm surprised that it makes the window too small; I would have thought it would be possible to specify a minimum size for a new window, but I don't know much about JavaScript!

Given screen.width and screen.height, it is possible.

edit: It is possible without the screen size; the screen size is only needed if you want to make the minimum size relative to the window.

cirquitz 21 May 2004 05:37 AM

some minor stuff I noticed cursorily ...

1. Undo doesn't work
2. I click the "north-east" pointed arrow. A windows opens with a textbox covering a large part of the screen, and nothing else. No email ... nothing in the textbox.
3. When I have finished typing in a subject and hit enter, focus usually goes to the body-of-the-email compose box. With HTML compose, hitting enter on the subject line fires the Send button.

Looking forward to HTML compose very very much,
cirq :D
