iPhone or Android?
iPhone or Android and why?
|
Worldwide it is 28.32% for iPhone and 70.93% for Android, but here in the USA things are reversed:
|
iPhones are for people with more money than sense, I've got more sense than money.
Edit: I always have to Google for 'Gen Z' and 'Millennials' as those terms mean nothing to me. |

But then again, I'm getting on a bit, and so are my eyes. |

Android has always worked well for me. It plays nicely with Windows and the Fastmail app.
I see many more problems mentioned about using Fastmail with iOS. I gather that Apple supports iPhone models for longer and that they are easier (but costly) to repair. It's never tempted me to switch. |
I have a Samsung Android mainly because I have used a lot of Google stuff, including Gmail, and I like the integration with it. I also prefer a less locked down system that allows me to customize more. But, most of my family and friends are iPhone, meaning I still get left out when they send videos that I can barely make out. Google's RCS messaging is making that better, but still a ways to go. I also like the fact that iPhones get supported a long time, and hold much higher resale value. Plus, a lot of photographers use iPhones. Yes, the best Androids also have good cameras, but I have not been a fan of what Samsung's processing does to images. Google Pixels are much better, and my family gets great shots from their iPhones. I shoot mostly nature stuff, and sometimes my phone just will not capture the scene no matter what I do.

If the trend continues it indicates a non-typical group of people here using Android almost exclusively. Here in the USA that would be very strange. In business almost everyone uses iPhones based on email marketing statistics I have seen. Email opens for marketing campaigns to associations and businesses show 90% and above are using Apple devices.

Android. My first smart phone was in 2012. Samsung S4.
I tried the iPhone. We were an iPhone family, excluding my self. I just didn't like it. Partially unfamiliarity, mostly just didn't like how it worked, Like closing an app when I done with it. I didn't like that button thing either. All of my family has switched over to Android, I had zero to do with it, they just discovered Android worked better. Android works the way I expect it to work. I am comfortable with Android. I like the fact I can install apps that are not from the Play Store, something that annoyed me with the iPhone. I had a friend who must have the latest iPhone and has camped out for over a week to be the first. I do not understand that. |
Observing family and friends who are mostly iPhone I see two main camps. The largest group wants a phone and apps that just work with no fuss. They do not tinker with phones. They like the fact they can walk into an Apple store and have someone fix things or answer questions. They keep their phones for many years until something is broken--often four or five or more. They then go to the Apple store and have the friendly staff just set up a new phone with no fuss and then everything just works for another four or five years. The second group are young professionals that would stick out like sore thumbs if they didn't use iPhones because literally everyone they know has one. At their jobs when someone refers to something on a "phone" they mean on an iPhone, and everyone knows exactly what they mean. They look at Android phones as second class.

No one in my family ever bought an Apple product.
My son once won an iPod in a CS competition for kids and when the iPods' screen broke my wife took it to an Apple store in Tel Aviv to fix it. The guy there told her that "you don't fix Apple products, you buy a new one". So she crossed to the other side of the mall and bought a Galaxy tablet for a quarter of the price of an iPod, and never looked at a Apple product again. Ny Galaxy phone cost less than 200$ and is good enough for my needs (perhaps having NFC would be better, but I can live without it; My main requirement was having an FM radio in the phone and it's becoming quite difficult to find ones that have it, except if they are very cheap). My older son's Galaxy phone is a bit more expensive, because he sometimes uses it for photography, but usually when he wants quality photography he uses a digital SLR Cannon camera with a Tamron telescopic lense. Most of his photos are sort of nature. |
Android just makes for sense for my own use of MS Windows, and Google services. Additionally, some Android o.s. mobile devices are fairly inexpensive. I like to use very few additional apps beyond what are already installed on the mobile device. Not much tinkering about the mobile device is needed.

I dont have any and Im glad.... I dont wanna be tracked or subjected to that RF constantly..... We have enough already!!!
|
I’m stucked in the Apple eco system: iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Watch, AirPods, iCloud+.
Must say: it works very well together. |
Another thing I like about Android is the ability to move files to and from my PC. I can send links to my PC, I can get notifications on SMS and calls on my PC too.

Yup they arent good in my opinion!!!!!!!

Unfortunately for some of us, a cell phone is a must have item.
|
I always had an Android...simply because an iPhone is realy expensive and i do not like their marketing concept.
I bought my first smartfone in 2010...which was a Samsung Galaxy something. Right now I use a cheapo Motorola G54 and a Poco X6 pro. I always buy a loose phone without a plan, because in doing so your phone is cheaper. I never spend more then 350 euros on a new phone. And then i will do with it 3 or 4 years. Dutchie. |
I too used to only purchase less-expensive phones until the cameras on the better ones became so good I no longer needed to carry a separate camera. Now, I could never go back since my phone is also my main camera. To me having a good camera is the #1 feature I look at when purchasing a new phone.

Don't know if this is still the case, but in 2021 Apple was Google's largest corporate customer according to this article and thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comme...rate_customer/
Can't say I have made any scientific comparison, but when I ran a small business we used the big three for various things: Microsoft, Apple, and Google. IMHO the Google stuff was by far the most reliable, easiest to use, and least prone to mysterious problems. That's for the small business versions. Icloud is rather temperamental, and One Drive is not much better. Google Drive is faster and more reliable. |
